************************* THE TRANSATLANTIC INSTITUTE PRESS RELEASE ********************** 28 March 2007 ************************* For immediate release ************************* KARABAKH: A DANGEROUS FROZEN CONFLICT -- PANEL EVENT IN LONDON, THURSDAY 29 MARCH The Transatlantic Institute (TI) will be hosting a panel discussion entitled "Karabakh: A dangerous frozen conflict" at the Frontline Club, London. It is now over a decade since outright hostilities ceased between Armenia and Azerbaijan in one of the world's trickiest geopolitical regions. Ziba Norman, director of the TI, commented: "Andranik Margarian's (Prime Minister of Armenia) death on Sunday (25 March) is sure to have great political consequences in the upcoming elections in Armenia, and wider implications for the region. International initiatives to create a stable solution for Karabakh have thus far been largely unsuccessful, though the populations of both Azerbaijan and Armenia are looking to their governments for a resolution. "Our panel will discuss the implications of this, as well as looking at the role of nationalism along the civilizational faultline in the Caucasus."
